In these strange post-election days, I couldn't be more excited to share information about a new concept coming to Portland that celebrates so many of values that are now central to the protests taking place on the streets here and across the nation. Vía Raíz opens today in downtown Portland with a line of products that showcases Mexican craftsmanship and is founded by the incredible female entrepreneur and first-generation Mexican Jennifer Bolanos.

We work with highly skilled makers and innovative designers who are reinterpreting traditional Mexican craft - bridging the divide between ancestral craft and contemporary design.

I had the opportunity to work with Jennifer on a series of photoshoots capturing the products in a lifestyle setting. It was the ideal collaboration with a keen vision and gorgeous products. In order to emphasize the intersection of traditional and contemporary, Pacific Northwest and Mexico, we settled on shooting at a barn on Sauvie Island, a favorite rural stomping ground of Portlanders that is just 15 minutes outside of the city.

Vía Raíz features a carefully curated collection of textiles, linens and jewelry, as well as items for the home and kitchen. Gorgeous planters, beaded skulls, and ceramics.
